Should You Also, Hate Them?

What should you do if you’re in a group or have a job where you deal with colleagues who don’t like you?

You don’t have to try to make them like you. From experience, this set of people become worse when you try to get on their good side.

In fact, don’t be nice to them.

Just be calm and professional around them.

Show up matured around them.

Whatever problem they have with your person is their headache, not yours.

Don’t respond to their bile, don’t be a part of it or care about it.

In situations like this, it’s easy to have the mindset of, “How could a whole group of people hate me? Something must be wrong with me,” and be emotionally lowered. Don’t let someone or people hating you become a burden to you, the burden is theirs to be saddled with. In most cases when you experience these toxic people, it’s a matter of jealousy or envy and not that something is wrong with you.

That said, how someone or a group of people treat you doesn’t define you, rather it defines who these people are.

By the same measure, how you treat people who don’t like you defines you. Responding to toxicity with toxicity diminishes your status in the eyes of those who witness you being unkind to this set. Don’t give anyone permission to control your character.

What you must do: etiquette advice we should treat people with respect and kindness. Be CIVIL with them. I know this is a tough one, but you can do it. If these people are in your workplace, you can’t avoid them. So, all you’ve got to do is to be respectful and professional around them. If they are in your church, mosque or some kind of group, try to have minimal interaction with them.

I hope this helps.

Never permit anyone to make you toxic.
