Listen Up! Building Stronger Bond With Your Kids

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀: - "You talk too much!" 🚫 - "Let's talk later, I'm tired!" 🚫


𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: - Constantly using these phrases can: - Shut your child off from bonding with you. - Prevent them from sharing important aspects of their lives. - Increase negative outside influences.


𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀: - 𝗔𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Even a simple "I hear you, give me a moment" can show that you value their thoughts.

 

 - 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Let them know when you’ll be available to listen without distractions.

 

- 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Make eye contact, nod, and respond thoughtfully.

 

𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱:

 

- 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼: You’re exhausted after a long day at work, and your child wants to talk.

 

- 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: Acknowledge their need to talk. "I can see you want to share something with me."

 

- 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: Set a short, clear boundary. "I’m really tired right now, but I want to hear you. Can we talk for five minutes now, and then continue after dinner?"

 

- 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: Follow through on your promise. After dinner, sit down and give them your full attention.
