Bathroom etiquette at work - A survival guide for the office restroom

Do you know that a clean workplace restroom makes everyone happier and that everyone benefits from employees who tidy up after themselves in shared spaces? The restroom at work is not the place to create a mess. It is essential to follow basic etiquette guidelines in order to preserve the cleanliness of the area. Applying the toilet etiquette listed below will make you stand out at work in a positive way.

✓Leave no toilet paper on the floor.

✓If you make a mess, clean it up.

✓Don't dispose of rubbish in the restroom.

✓Keep the sink from becoming soiled.

✓After using the restroom, do not wait for the janitor to clean it.

✓Flush and disinfect the toilet after use.

✓Keep your phone out of the bathroom.

✓Maintain order and decorum there (and out).

✓Change the toilet paper roll when you need to use the restroom and there are just one or two sheets left on it.

✓If the bathroom is a huge disaster and you need to use it, clean it!

✓Throw away any paper towels on the floor when you need to use the restroom.

✓If the sink mirror is dirty and you need to use the restroom, clean it off!

✓If there isn't any soap in the restroom when you need to use it, refill it!

✓If you need to use the restroom and find disgusting residue in the sink or other unhygienic conditions, call the janitor to fix the problem and email the manager to let them know about it so that the offender doesn't repeat the bad behaviour.

✓Surviving your period at work is part of being a good team player or bossing it in the boardroom. Prioritise cleanliness. If blood leaks on the toilet floor when using it, clean it up. Make sure you have adequate breathable pads. If your company uses sanitary bins, don't throw tissues or soiled pads in the trash. Be considerate of the cleaners.

And lastly, always wash your hands after using the restroom. Make sure to clean in between your fingers, on the backs of your hands, and underneath your nails while you scrub with soap for 20 to 30 seconds. Use a clean towel to dry after rinsing with water.

Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser if there isn't running water available. Use one that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Never overlook this aspect of hygiene at work, taking care of the restroom.

Final Takeaway: Place obvious signs or stickers on the toilets to let staff members know how vital it is for them to contribute to maintaining a clean atmosphere.
